Termite control, or any other kind of pest control, has to be done only by the professionals due to their training and expertise. The most common of these pests who live unnoticed in our homes are termites. These little pests eat away any wood material of your home from the floors, the foundations, the walls and the ceilings. Determining termite location and what kind of treatment to be used will best be known to the experts.
However, gone are the days when chemical pesticides or extermination products are used. The most common and organic termite control system is known as the Orange Oil or the D-Limonene based pest products. The active ingredient for the orange oil extermination system is the d-limonene which is extracted from orange rinds. Tests have shown that d-limonene has low toxicity thereby making it popular as the preferred termite control solution for homes and businesses. It is also worthy to note that orange oil is also one of the main ingredients used for the manufacture of resins, a fragrance additive as well as for cleaning compounds.
The proper way of treating termite infestation is local spot application. This procedure helps in treating the areas of infestation as well as killing the termites themselves. This method starts by drilling the infected wood chambers and injecting the orange oil product into the galleries. Orange oil is best used for dry wood termites and not much for subterranean termites.
In spite of this eco-friendly alternative, traditional extermination methods can still be used. In spite of this, however, not every home needs to be fumigated. The infested areas, the extent of infestation, the size and age of the colonies and the kinds of termites are all determining factors whether or not your home needs fumigation.
Termite control using orange oil is advantageous because there is no need of leaving the home during treatment. Because it is ecologically safe, household pets and plants need not be removed nor medicine or food bagged or stored away. On the other hand, walls and wood frames will have to be drilled and large orange oil treatments can cost more than fumigation. However, this is a small price to pay to live in a healthy and non-polluted, chemical free home.
