10 km away from the town of Nessebur, a town of world historic significance, is situated the beautiful coastal village -“St. Vlas”- village with population of about 3 000 people. The settlement Sveti Vlas is 4 km. from the resort Elenite, 4 km. from the resort Sunny Beach, 35 km. from Bourgas town and 28 km. from airport Bourgas. It lies in the skirts of the Stara Planina mountain and thus offers a beautiful combination of sea and mountain climate, considered favourable for those suffering from lung diseases. HISTORY:
The village of St. Vlas is believed to have been founded by the Thracian tribe of Larisi in the 2nd century BC. At that time, it reportedly bore the name of Larisa. It was renamed 'Sveti Vlas' in the 14th century AC after the patron saint of cattle growers and merchants. During Ottoman rule (late 14th-19th century AC), the village appeared in administrative registrars as 'Manastir' ('Monastery') or 'Kyuchuk Manastir' after the five monasteries in the vicinity of the village. Unfortunately, none of the monasteries has been preserved up to present days. Officially, it restored its name of St. Vlas after the reunification of the Bulgarian state in 1886.
CLIMATE:
Air temperatures in summer vary between 23°C and 27°C, water temperatures between 17°C and 25°C. There are more than 240 hours of sunshine in May and September, and more than 300 in July and August. The deep-cutting coves and rugged shores, wooded hills and romantic peninsulas, vineyards and orchards, fishing towns and secluded campsites lend a unique fascination to the Bulgarian.
ACCOMMODATION:
Sveti Vlas is a sprawling local village whose spruced-up environs attest to lucrative spill-over business from Sunny Beach. Private enterprise is in full swing with a rash of spiffy-looking small hotels, new holiday apartments, holiday villas and restaurants springing up all over town. 
The explosive growth in Vlas translates into an ever- increasing number of diversions for tourists who opt to stay there. Visitors can also avail themselves of the varied amenities and busy night life at Sunny Beach, just 5 kilometers down the road. Sveti Vlas is a more quiet resort that will mostly suit families with kids or people who wish to escape from the noisy resorts.
The adjacent beaches are of a total length of about 1km and average width of 16 meters. Besides the village's central beach, there is also a smaller one (the so-called 'Campinga' after the campsite there), stretching from the Sun Palace complex to the Riviera complex. The eastern end of the village's adjacent coastal line hosts the small port of local fishermen. The Bulgarian coastal stretch faces east and extends over 378 km, dotted with vast beaches covered with fine golden sand. The majority of Bulgaria beaches have been awarded the EU Blue Flag for their environmental excellence.
