Upper Nile
Upper Nile (Arabic: أعالي النيل; transliterated: (A'aly an-Nyl) or (Aâlâ En Nîl) is one of the 26 wilayat or states of Sudan. The White Nile flows through it. It has an area of 77,773 km² and an estimated population of approximately 1,300,000 (2000). Malakal is the capital of the state. The town of Kodok, the location of the Fashoda incident that ended the Scramble for Africa, is located here.
