Absheron district was founded in 1963, the total area is 1,4 thousand square kilometers and population 87,9 thousand people (January 1, 2003). The overall plot of land of the district is 156,0 thousand hectares, 120,1 thousand of which is the state, 6,7 thousand hectares private and 29,2 thousand municipal property. Generally, arable land is 16,9 thousand hectares. Poultry-keeping, sheep-breeding and the others are the main economic fields of the district, brick and sand natural resources.
Industry
37 industrial enterprises functioned in Absheron district, in 2001. The number of employees in these enterprises reached 730 people, the volume of production 11990,4 million manats. The interesting fact is that if in 1995, average monthly wage of the employees engaged in industrial enterprises of the district constituted 71,1 thousand manats, in 2001 168,1 thousand manats, and the value of industrial-production facilities correspondingly reached from 4916 million to 75 982 million manats. All these show that production-oriented enterprises started to develop in the district, as well.
Agriculture
It should be noted that in comparison with 1995, vegetable production increased 1,6 (2087 tons), fruit 2,3 (1300 tons), melon and gourds 8,0 times (640 tons). In addition to the said, vineyards declined by 1146 hectares, production of stuffs 343 tons, potato correspondingly 13 and 91, grain production 1039 hectares, i.e. 1231 tons. Productivity in the production of the above-mentioned plant-growing stuffs per hectare in agricultural field of the district, for grain increased by 0,6, fruit 4,5, vine 14,2 and melon and gourds 56,0 centners, and only for potato decreased by 17 centners. Definite changes have been observed in the production of agricultural stuffs of the district, as well. For example, in comparison with 1995, the number of horned cattle increased by 5255 and sheep and goats 17 223 stocks in 2001 in the district. Moreover, meat products (hanging meat weight) increased by 981, milk production 6016 tons and egg 22 865 thousands in the corresponding period.
Administrative district of Khizy
General information
Khizy district was established in 1990, the total area is 1711 square kilometers, the population is 12,4 thousand people (January 1, 2002). The overall plot of land of the district is 171,1 thousand hectares, 90,4 thousand of which is the state, 5,8 thousand private and 74,9 thousand hectares municipal property. Generally, arable land is 6,8 thousand hectares. Husbandry and cattle-breeding are the main economic fields of the district, mineral waters, and forest and clay natural resources of the district.
Industry
One industrial enterprise functioned in Khizy district in 2001. The number of employees in these enterprises constituted 87 people and the volume of production was given only with the production (16,1 tons of flour). The interesting fact is that if in 1995, average monthly wage of employees constituted 36,0 thousand manats, in 2001 85,9 thousand manats, and the value of industrial-production assets correspondingly reached from 1173 million to 9914 million manats. All these show that production-oriented enterprises have started to develop in the district, as well.
Agriculture
It should be noted that in comparison with 1997, in 2001 vegetable production increased 1,6 (909 tons), melon and gourds 2,1 (55 tons) and fruit 4,5 times (387 tons). In addition to the mentioned, grain production decreased by 1139 hectares and 1071 tons, but potato remained the same. The productivity in the production of the above-mentioned plant growing stuffs pr hectare, for potato increased by 1,9, vegetable 5,4, grain 1,6, melon and gourds 34,1 and fruit 31,9 centners in agricultural field of the district. Definite changes have been observed in cattle-breeding production, as well. For example, number of horned cattle increased by 778, sheep and goats by 16 331 stocks in 2001.
Sumgait city
General information
Sumgait city was founded in 1949, the total area is 0,08 thousand square kilometers and the population is 289,7 thousand people (January 1, 2003). The total plot of land of the city is 10,9 thousand hectares, 2,9 thousand hectares of which is the state, 1,9 thousand and 6,1 thousand hectares municipal property. Engineering, metallurgy, chemical industry, light industry and production of construction materials are the main economic fields of the city.
Industry
130 industrial enterprises functioned in Sumgait city in 2001. The number of employees in these enterprises constituted 20 647 people and the production volume 399 367 million manats. The interesting fact is that if in 1995, average monthly wage of employees involved in industrial enterprises of Sumgait city constituted 72,0 thousand manats, in 2001 it was 275,4 thousand manats and the production of the main industrial-production assets correspondingly reached from 187 599 million to 3 085 672 million manats. All these are indicative of the development of production-oriented enterprises in Sumgait city, as well.
Agriculture
As Sumgait city has no arable land, the population is engaged in agricultural production in their own property. It should be noted that in comparison with 1998, in 2001 vegetable production increased 1,8 (105 tons), in comparison with 1997 fruit and fruit 3,8 times (308 tons), moreover, vineyards decreased by 391 hectares and production 1200 tons.
The productivity in the production of the said plant growing stuffs per hectare, for vegetable, vine, fruit and berry correspondingly by 124, 31 and 35,6 centners.
Certain changes have been observed in the production of cattle-breeding products in the district, as well. For example, the number of horned cattle increased by 121, sheep and goats 1065 stocks, pigs by 464 small in 2001. Meat products (cut) increased by a ton, milk production 121 tons, egg production 84 thousands.
