Souk Ahras

Souk Ahras (Arabic: ولاية سوق أهراس ) is a wilaya of Algeria. Souk Ahras was in Roman times known as Tagaste. The city of Tagaste was situated in the northeast highlands of Numidia. It was about sixty miles from Hippo Regius, now called Annaba, and about 150 miles from Carthage on the coast of present day Tunisia. It was the birthplace of St. Augustine of Hippo.
