Logone Occidental

Logone Occidental is one of the 18 regions of Chad (Decrees N° 415/PR/MAT/02 and 419/PR/MAT/02), and its capital is Moundou. It consists of the former Logone Occidental Prefecture. Moundou is the second largest city in Chad, the capital of the region of Logone Occidental. It has a population of 99,530 (as of 1993). The city lies on the Logone River some 300 miles south of the capital N'Djamena. It is the main city of the N'Gambaye people. Moundou has grown as an industrial centre, home to a brewery and the cotton and oil industries. It is also home to an airport,

 Demography

The region's population had 455,140 inhabitants in 1993. The Ngambay ethnic group represent more than the 90 % of the territory's population.
